Butrinto Cento, 1924???2024

It was in the spring of 1924 that Luigi Maria Ugolini first caught sight of the promontory preserving the remains of the ancient city of Butrint.??

On the centenary of that first journey, the Butrint Project (University of Bologna, Institute of Archaeology of Tirana) promoted the programme ???Butrinto Cento???, conceived as a series of opportunities for shared reflection on the long history of research at Butrint and in the surrounding region, its impact, and its future.

The present volume brings together the proceedings of one of these moments of exchange and discussion, offering contributions that present the most recent results of ongoing investigations and address the challenges and future prospects of historical and archaeological research in Albania and Epirus. The papers assemble the results of studies carried out by historians and archaeologists involved in Italian, Albanian, and international archaeological missions currently active in this region, outlining an up-to-date overview of research in a key region of the ancient Mediterranean.
